Note: Field Trips are $25 each

 

 

 

Friday, June 6: En route to Walla Walla

 

FR-TC   Tri-Cities: Meet at 6:30 AM at Wye Park/Bateman Island, Big Flat HMU, Wind Dust Park, Kahlotus, Washtucna, Palouse Falls, Lyons Ferry, Tucannon River mouth, then via Clyde.

Leader: Dennis Rockwell.

 

FR-ML   Moses Lake: Meet at 6:30 AM at the state park, Potholes Reservoir, Dodson Rd, Othello, then via Pasco & Wallula.

Leader: Randy Hill.

 

FR-OT  Othello: Meet at 6:30 AM at McDonalds on Main, Washtucna, Hooper, La Crosse, Central Ferry, Lewis & Clark SP. This trip has been CANCELED.

 

FR-LY   Lyle: Meet at 6:30 AM at bridge on SR 14, Majors Creek, Rock Creek, Crow Butte, Hermiston, Echo, Reith Rd., Pendleton, Mission, then via Milton-Freewater.

Saturday and Sunday, June 7 - 8: From Walla Walla

 

SA-1 / SU-1    Walla Walla walking tour: a short drive to key sites in and very near town, such as Bennington Reservoir, Whitman Mission (20 miles driving, *plus 5 miles walking).

SA-1 Leaders: Diane and Tom Weber.

SU-1 Leader: Kathy Andrich.

 

SA-2 / SU-2    Tri-Cities walking tour: hike and bird along the Yakima and Columbia Rivers, visiting  Bateman Island, the Yakima River mouth (120 miles driving, *plus 5 miles walking). SA-2 has been CANCELED.

SU-2 Leader: Gene Hunn.

 

SA-3 / SU-3    Hatch-Touchet: Hatch Grade, Walla Walla River mouth, Iowa Beef ponds, McNary NWR, Hood Park, Burbank Heights HMU return via Nine-mile Canyon, Touchet (120 miles).

SA-3 Leaders: Mike and MerryLynn Denny.

SU-3 Leader: Howard Browers.

 

SA-4 / SU-4    Lyons Ferry/Washtucna Ferry: Lyons Ferry-Palouse Falls-Washtucna, Hooper, Kahlotus, Diablo Canyon and Wind Dust Park (125 miles).

SA-4 Leader: Scott Downes.

SU-4 Leader: Bob Flores.

 

SA-5 / SU-5   Mill Creek to Kooskooskie on the state line, then hike the Lewis Peak trail as far as time and energy allow (e.g., three miles to Stewart Cabin) (40 miles driving plus 5 miles hiking). Note: Due to the high snowpack, the original Table Mountain high-elevation route had to be revised. SU-5 has been CANCELED.

SA-5 Leader: Bob Flores.

 

SA-6 / SU-6   Coppei/Lewis Peak: S. Fork Coppei Creek to summit of Lewis Peak (60 miles).

SA-6 Leader: Brad Waggoner.

SU-6 Leaders: Diane and Tom Weber.

 

SA-7 / SU-7   Dixie/Biscuit Ridge: Dixie, up Dry Creek past the hummingbird house, to Biscuit Ridge, Blacksnake Ridge: (60 miles).

SA-7 Leader: Jim Danzenbaker.

SU-7 Leader: Scott Downes.

 

SA-8 / SU-8   Bluewood: Lewis & Clark SP, then up into the Blues from Dayton along the Touchet River to Bluewood ski area (85 miles).

SA-8 Leader: Jim Nestler.

SU-8 Leader: Paul and Barbara Webster.

 

SA-9 / SU-9  Oregon Butte: These trips CANCELED due to high snowpack.

 

SA-10 / SU-10   Tucannon River: via Dayton to the Tucannon River and up to Panjab and Meadow Creeks: 150 miles.

SA-10 Leader: Cindy McCormack.

SU-10 Leader: Jim Nestler.

 

SA-11 / SU-11   Oregon: Umatilla River valley, with an exploration en route of the upper forks of the Walla Walla River southeast of Milton-Freewater, returning via Echo. A chance to work on your Oregon satte list (150 miles). Note: Due to the high snowpack, the original Tollgate high-elevation route had to be revised.

SA-11 Leader: Gene Hunn.

SU-11 Leader: Bob Derting.

 

SA-12 / SU-12    Washington-Oregon: Hatch Grade, Walla Walla River mouth, Port Kelly, Millet Field, Madam Dorion Park and Two Rivers HMU (120 miles).

SA-12 Leader: Bob Derting.

SU-12 Leaders: Mike and MerryLynn Denny.

Sunday, June 8: Owling

 

SU-OWL1  Owling in and around Walla Walla (20 miles): Barn, Great Horned, Western Screech, Long-eared, Poorwill.

Leader: Mike Denny.

 

SU-OWL2  Owling Lewis & Clark State Park and South Fork Coppei Creek (50 miles): Barn, Great Horned, Western Screech, Long-eared. Leader: Jim Nestler.

 

SU-OWL3  Evening at the Lamb home watching hummingbirds, then owling up along Seimans Rd. and on into Coppei Creek (40 miles). Northern Pygmy, Northern Saw-whet, Western Screech, Great Horned owls.

Leader: Jim Danzenbaker.

 

Monday, June 9: Based in Walla Walla

 

MO-1    Walla Walla County hot spots: Bennington Lake, Whitman Mission, Touchet, Nine-mile Canyon (50 miles).

Leaders: Diane and Tom Weber.

 

MO-6     Lewis Peak: S. Fork Coppei Creek to summit of Lewis Peak (60 miles).

Leader: Mike and MerryLynn Denny.

 

MO-7    Dixie/Biscuit Ridge, up Dry Creek past the hummingbird house, to Biscuit Ridge, Blacksnake Ridge (60 miles). This trip has been CANCELED.

MO-TO   Walla Walla River delta, Iowa Beef ponds, McNary NWR, Bateman Island, Yakima River delta, Grandview sewage ponds, Toppenish NWR.

Leader: Bob Flores.

 

MO-MH    Walla Walla River delta, Cold Springs NWR, McNary Dam, Whitcomb Island NWR, Crow Butte SP, Six-Prong Rd. Maryhill. This trip has been CANCELED.
